nationalized? And how is it that this company can buy Bristol and Leyland buses ?
AUnited Automobile Services were nationalized (along with all other Tilling Group companies—eg West Yorkshire, Cumberland, Crosville) in 1948.
Bristol buses were made by a Tilling Group manufacturing subsidiary. Bristol Commercial Vehicles Ltd, which built for State-owned companies, but can now build for anybody. By the same token. United can buy buses of any other make, although this is not usual practice. The present Leylands came from Wilkinson Motor Services Ltd, recently acquired by United.
