Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

in Walker Crane NAANY new features have been introduced into a al fresh version of the Walker crane which combines exceptional mobility with notably good capacity for operating on soft surfaces. The prototype is now working on preparations for the Royal. Show at Blackpool.

Of special importance are the operating safety devices which reset themselves automatically in accordance with variations in working conditions. Based on . the Walker Steelyard they offer complete protection even though the. driver may act in error. light and buzzer signals give warning of approaching overload and, if operation is continued, cut-out action follows.

Outriggers are hydraulically operated from the cab and can be extended in a matter of 35 seconds. When this has been done the safety devices are automatically set at the 8-ton limit, but when the outriggers are withdrawn the margin is immediately reduced to 6 tons. The Walker crane is one-man operated—the quick action of the outriggers greatly facilitates the handling of the heavier loads.

The new crane incorporates the Gardner 4LW engine, but has Dieselelectric operation for both traction and craning. In standard trim the top road speed is 10 m.p.h. and gradients up to 1 in 10 are readily climbed.

The rear bogie is of the Kirkstall double-axle twin-drive type with fourway articulation. Although the unladen weight of the crane is approximately 19 tons 18i cwt., the arrangement is such that the ground pressure is extremely low. A special compressor unit is fitted for tyre inflation.

This new Walker crane is assisting in the preparations for the Royal Show. Maximum lifting capacity

is 6 Ions.

Overall length is 21 ft. 1 in. and the height is 14 ft. If in. with the jib set for road travel, Normal overall width is 7 ft. 6 in., or 11 ft. 7 in. when the outriggers are extended. A I6-gallon fuel tank is mounted on a bracket forward of the near-side front wheel. Being in a somewhat vulnerable position, a substantial guard has been built over the top and forward end.

The crane is electrically operated and is capable of slewing through 3600 in 20 seconds. Lifting capacity ranges from 6 tons at 10 ft. radius to 3 tons' at 15 ft. 10 in. Hoisting speed with 6 tons on the hook is 30 ft. per min.
