Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

entries in the sixth International Coach Rally, which ended in Nicc last week, were conspicuous by their absence. A Swedish Volvo Fitted with a Van Holt body took first place, second and third awards being gained respectively by a Somua fitted with Currus coachwork and a D.A.F. bodied by Den Oudsten.

To the casual spectator, this rally looks rather like a jamboree, as much of the human freight carried in the coaches consists of youth groups. There is far more to it than that, though, as the event terminates with a series of manteuvrability trials under the organization of the Automobile Club de Nice and a concours.

This, by the way, is not merely a concours d'elegance, although appearance counts for much. Far more important is the standard of comfort provided for passengers and this, it may be said, was very high indeed.

The Continental coach builder of today gives careful attention to those little details of interior design and equipment which mean so much to a passenger on long-distance services. Exceptional visibility is given to everyone inside the coach: One example of excellent visibility for the driver was noted in a Fiat coach with bodywork by Padana, of Modena, in which the windscreen was carried round in one sweep to the side windows. This vehicle won first prize in the foreign coach class.

Another outstanding entry was a Currus-bodied Somua coach from Nantes, with a rear door and staircase to the upper seats. The Swedish Volvo which won the rally was entered by the Std des Voyages Pullman Of Liege.

Among other machines specially 948

noticed was a Berliet three-axled .40seater city service bus.

Mameuvrability trials... held on a flood-lit area of the Promenade des Anglais, were watched by a large crowd.
