Railway as a passenger-carrying unit between Montreal and the neighbouring town of La Salle, the vehicle illustrated on this _page is expected further to demonstrate the economic valfi-e of petrol-propelledcars as allies of steam railways.

The .vehicle was designed and built by • Ledoux, Gennings and Co., Ltd:, the distributors for the flee Motor Con. Co., at Montreal, and is equippeol with a Rea T-6 engine. The car is 34 ft. in length, and is mounted. on two-wheeled trucks. . The body is similar in external and internal design to a small inter-urban -motorbus, with a smoking-room and baggage compartment in the front. Seating accommodation is provided for 30 passengers, and standing room for au

addi tiotia.i. 20 people

Brake's, operating on all eight wheels, are operated by What. is ordinarily the 'eteeriog wheel. .T1ar.ef •speecia are provided for the vehicle,. which Can travel at a. maximum rate of 60 miles an hour. The petrol consumption works out at a gallon for 10 miles' rmining. The en

046 tire vehicle weighs approximately four tons. On a trial run from Montreal to Ottawa it made the same running time as the regular train.

The industrial development of La Salle is quite naturally -expected to follow the inauguration of this transportation service. The town contains a large number of manufacturing enterprises, with ideal facilities for many more, but its complete development has been hitherto retarded by lack of proper rail connections with Montreal. Traffic be tween the two 'points has been too light to justify the cost of running a regular serviceby steam train, and will be for some time, and it was necessary to adoptsome other means of establishing transportation until traffic was sufficiently large to make the operation of regular trains a profitable undertaking. This railcar is expected to provide the necessary travelling facilities for some time to come, particularly as the service which it give-s can be supplemented at short notice by vehicles of a simily type.
