Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

N0 OTHER show in the world is of more interest to the farmer•than.the famous Royal, Which has its venue this year at Newcastle-an-Tyne. To many agriculturists it is the one great occasion during the year when they can foregather from all parts of the country to inspect all that is latest and best in the methods and means provided for the efficient carrying on of their life's work, and it is being recognized by the progressive section that the agrimotor and, without doubt, the mechanicalroad transport vehicle are rapidly assuming a very im

portant position in this respect. .

In our opinion it is very anfortunate that the implement section cannot be made to include a far more complete exhibit of motor vehicles, but this is one of. the shows which come under the ban Of. the Commercial Vehicle Committee of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, and it is, therefore, left almost exclusively, apart from agrimotor exhibitors, to. the manufacturers of steam wagons, traction engines, and tractors. The actual exhibits include some 14 makes of agrinaotors, 13 makes of steam . wagons, 10 of tractors and traction engines, and only three of petrol wagons, if we exclude some

ieconditioned vehicles.

The agrimotor and road transport exhibits at this 82nd Royal Show are rather less numerous than last year, but the implement section is by no .means devoid of interest in this respect, for many well, known makers who have already won enviable reputations for the quality of their products are still to be found on the show ground. The position in connection with mechanical transport is encouraging, for a great many farmers who, only a few years ago, would not have considered the employment of motor vehicles .have. become firm adherents to this means of transport, for by its use • their crops can be conveyed to the markets in the shortest possible time without the liability , to depreciation in value caused by delays and several . handlings.. .

Petrol vehicles are being used to an increasing extent, but the steam wagon still appears to be the prime favourite, possibly, bec,..ese many. farm hands who have not :even a rudinientar knowledge of the mechanism of the petrol Vehicle have -been brought up in an atmosPhere of ploughing engines and steamdriven threshingmachines.
