LF55 18 December 2003

Dal's modular 'pick'n'mix' range moved into the middleweight sector with the LF55, which covers the weight range from 12-21 tonnes and is available in 4x2 and 6x2 configurations, as well as an urban artic for operations up to 28 tonnes GCW. Like the LF45, power comes from the Cummins ISBe unit—though Oaf insists on calling it a Paccar engine. There are three versions of the larger (6.7-litre) six-cylinder motor at 220,250 and 280hp.

The LF55 is aimed at the payload-conscious sector of the distribution market with Oaf claiming a 13-tonne body-pluspayload for the 6x2 21-tonne rigid. The stylish cab, shared with the LF45 (and beneath the skin with the Renault Midlum) lacks some of the creature comforts offered by other distribution trucks on the market, not least by Oaf itself with the 0E65175, so the LF seems best suited to local operations.
