Rodeo Denver Max 2.5 10 May 2007

Having wowed us on its introduction in 2003 the lsuzu Rodeo fell down the pecking order after a slew of newer and competent rivals was introduced in subsequent years.

But with a recent facelift, including a sparky new 2.5-litre engine to replace the previous 3.0-litre though with no loss of powerand a restyle inside and out, the Rodeo has managed to stay with the back.

From the outside it looks purposeful and modern, eschewing the need for any dramatic cosmetic posturing, though inside the revised dashboard doesn't quite make the grade It feels less modern than its rivals, but the standard of build quality is commendable On the move the new engine takes a while to warm up, but when on song offers a progressive surge of torque from lowdown and this is aided by a slick gearchange and foolproof chassis -though it's less taut in the corners than some. However, this works to its advantage off-road, absorbing uneven surfaces with assurance.
