Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Hazardous goods hauliers could soon become part of a scheme designed to help the emergency services cope with tanker and other chemical accidents.

The Chem Safe Scheme, run by the Chemical Industries Association, is made up of chemical manufacturers which provide a 24-hour emergency advice set-vice backed by the

Government's National Chemical Emergency Centre.

But the 16-year-old scheme is being reviewed and hauliers and consignors are likely to be invited to join the CIA's 200strong membership.

Hauliers in the scheme could be called upon to provide telephone advice, physical help and equipment to other companies in distress.
