Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• International lorry driver John Cecil, who admitted stealing an ERF tractive unit from his former employer Macclesfield-based Perrys Transport, has been sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, suspended for two years (CM 29 November-5 December).

Cecil of Kentrnore Court, Blackley, Manchester, pleaded guilty to the theft of the tractor and to obtaining 24,500 from Meteor Transport, also of Macclesfield, by falsely representing that he was the owner of the ERF and so entitled to sell it. He also pleaded guilty to fraudulently obtaining income support and housing benefit totalling £6,269.32.

Judge Elgan Edwards ordered Cecil to pay 24,500 compensation to Meteor Transport at the rate of 250 per week.

For Cecil, Ian MacMackin said that the original owners of the ERF, Perrys Transport, had gone into liquidation. Cecil maintained that he was owed 21,700 by the firm, something that was denied by Alan Perry's brother who claimed that it was a much lower figure.

Meteor Transport was still in possession of the ERF.
