Since September, 1961, Mr. Perring has been chief mechanical engineer at the Ministry of Transport, in which position he has become wellknown to operators for his forthright views. He has contributed to discussions at a number of conferences and last February took part in one of this journal's round-table discussion groups. Before coming to the Ministry of Transport, Mr. Perring was assistant chief engineer at the Ministry of Works. During the war he was an engineer officer in the R.A.F.V.R., serving with Fighter Command and 2nd Tactical Air Force.
