The Institution's most valuable award, the James Clayton Prize of £1,700, is, for 1963, to he divided equally between Mr. P. Jackson, director of research, Wm. Doxford and Sons Ltd., of Sunderland, and Mr. F. B. Levetus, technical director, Keelavite Hydraulics Ltd., of Coventry.

A recent announcement on behalf of Wilmot Breeden (Holdings) Ltd. that Mr. F. J. Hum had accepted an invitation to join the board of that company, implied that he was relinquishing his directorship of S. Smith and Sons (England) Ltd. This is not so; Mr. Horn remains on the board of S. Smith and Sons.

Mr. R. D. Kimber has been appointed sales promotion and advertising manager of the Wayne Tank and Pump Co. Ltd., of Bracknell, Berks. Mr. Raymond Tuft, divisional superintendent of the Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Co. Ltd. since 1930, retired at the end of 1963 after 51 years' road transport service. Mr. Tuft started his career in 1913 with Walsall Corporation and joined South Staffs Tramways Co. in 1915. moving to Birmingham and Midland in 1924.

The Minister of Transport has appointed Mr. J. D. Wallace, formerly a senior engineer in Wales and Monmouth division, as a divisional road engineer, North Western division, in succession to Mr. J. L. Paisley, who has been appointed deputy chief engineer in place of Mr. C. E. Hollinghurst, who retired on December 31 last. Mr. G. F. Norris, formerly a senior engineer in North Eastern division, has been promoted to assistant chief engineer in charge of planning and programming branch at headquarters. Mr. P. G. Lyth, formerly assistant chief engineer, has been appointed joint head of the new London highways division at headquarters; the other joint head is Mr. E. S. Ainley, an assistant secretary.

Mr. W. Henderson has been appointed a director of the Alexandra Transport Co., Glasgow. Mr. P. M. Yates has been elected to the board of Atkinson Lorries (Holdings) Ltd., and Mr. E. Green and Mr. S. Husband have been elected to the board of the subsidiary company, Atkinson Vehicles Ltd.

After 34 years' service with Servis Recorders Ltd., of Gloucester, Mr. L. G. Salmon, representative of the North and West London, Middlesex, Beds, Bucks, Herts and Berks areas, is to retire.
