AROAD vehicle which can also run on railway lines has been designed by Mr. I. M. Rollo, an engineer, and chairman of the Highland Fund and one of the prominent supporters of the action committee which has been formed to co-ordinate all Scottish protests against railway closures under the Seedling plan. At an action committee conference in Perth last month Mr. Rollo urged complete unification of road and rail services and said that he had sent his proposal for the road-rail vehicle to the Secretary of State for Scotland. He went on: "There is a Patent involved and I have told Mr. Noble he can have it for nothing. apart from a small royalty to the Highland Fund and on condition the things are made in Inverness, where facilities are available."

If the railways turned it down, said Mr. Rollo, he was prepared to make the same offer to the action committee. to build a prototype in Inverness and " show those fellows in London it can work ".

The conference called for the imme diate withdrawal of rail closure procedure and recommended that public transport in Scotland should be based on the country's needs and not on considerations of profitability.

Experiment Failed: The Belfast Corporation's experiment to get motorists to leave their cars on the outskirts of the city centre in the pre-Christmas period proved a failure. Transport manager Mr. R. W. Adams will not recommend that the system be used again, unless parking meters are provided in the city centre to keep motorists out.
