I N a New Year message to London Transport's 75,000 staff, Mr. A. B. B. Valentine, l_.T.B. chairman, said that the tide was turning in favour of public transport and there was increasing realization that the bus and train were vital in this motorcar age and an adequate and efficient system of public transport was an essential factor in solving the problem of traffic in the world's greatest cities.

at a close, said Mr. Valentine, and they had together accomplished much in their new and independent role. But the year had been a troubled one with many, difficulties.
