REDUCTIONS of Id. in many fares between 2id. and 4d, have been announced by the Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Co., Ltd. This follows an assurance given to the West Midland Traffic Commissioners last year that the company would examine their .fares structure in the lower range. In their investigation, the company considered 15,496 fares and decided that 4,534 should be reduced. Mr. D. M. Sinclair, general manag4tr, said the blanket fare increase created anomalies and the number of passengers carried had dropped. It was hoped to regain some of this traffic with the lower fares, which would be introduced next month.

£85,000 FARE INCREASES

FARE increases which will yield an extra £85,000 a year were granted on Monday to West Bromwich Corporation by the West _ Midland Traffic Commissioners. Ordinary single fares will go up by id., whilst Id. will be added to ordinary and workmen's returns. Scholars' weekly tickets will be increased by 6d.

There were no objectors to the application, which did not apply to joint services in the borough.

FORMING OLD VEHICLE CLUB

UNDER the chairmanship of Lord Montagu of Beaulieu, a meeting will be held on January 14 at 7.30 p.m. at Shell-Mex House, Strand, London, W.C.2, for the inauguration of an Old Commercial Vehicle Club. This follows the successful rally held at Beaulieu last July.

The draft rules define an old commercial vehicle as one built before 1931 (except those of later date considered to be of special interest) and intended to carry goods or passengers, or as an appliance such as a fire-engine or gullyemptier.

MR. LEWIS LEAVES MORRIS

SALES manager of Morris Commercial Cars, Ltd., since 1945, Mr. Sidney Lewis has left the concern to become a director of W. Watson and Co. (Liverpool), Ltd., Morris-Commercial distributors for Liverpool and Birkenhead.

He joined the organization started by Mr. William Morris (now Lord Nuffield) in 1924, as did the new Morris-Commercial sales manager, Mr. W. }WWI, who in 1948-49 helped in the export drive of Nuffield Exports, Ltd., to the Indian subcontinent and New Zealand.

NEW UNILEVER ADVISER

THEappointment of transport adviser to the board of Unilever, Ltd., and head of the company's transport division has been taken over by Mr. E. G. Whitaker, who was previously .deputy to the former holder, Mr. A. G. Marsden. Mr. Marsden is to serve in a consultative capacity until his retirement later this year.
