A FTER negotiations lasting over two ti years, Lowland Motor.ways, Ltd., Glasgow, will be transferred on January 13 to Scottish Omnibuses, Ltd. The Glasgow concern are 30 years old and last year carried 8m. passengers with their 45 vehicles.

Lowland operate seven stage services in East Glasgow, and hold the British European Airways' contract for passenger transport between St. Enoch air terminal and Renfrew airport.

Among the vehicles concerned are two Leyland double-deckers with turbocharged rear engines and independent front suspension, and seven A.E.C.Craven double-deckers formerly belonging to London Transport. The 200 Lowland employees have been offered employment with Scottish Omnibuses.

ROAD PROFITS DOWN

A SURPLUS of £600,350 is recorded ..t 1. for the road passenger department in the accounts of Coras lompair Eireann for the year ended March 31, 1957. Profit on the road goods department was £64,031. • These figures compare with £680364 and E82,625 respectively for the previous year. The deficit incurred on railway operations during 1956-7 was over £1m.

Receipts from road goods vehicles were 11,606,611, a decrease of £136,302. A decrease in revenue was incurred on all traffic except livestock, fresh meat and beet. The tonnage carried was 2,466,940, a reduction of 785,505 compared with the figure for the previous period.

The number of passengers carried on Dublin city bug. services increased by 850,244 whilst receipts rose by 1218,301. Other services carried 225,000 more passengers and receipts were increased by £6,820. Extended tours numbered 240 and more than 6,000 passengers travelled.

Average revenue per passenger-mile on Dublin services was 1.71d., on other city services 1.67d., and on provincial services generally 2.5d.

HARMAN SELL COACHES

THE seven coaches and the goodwill of Harman Motor Services, Ltd., Wolverhampton, who have been operating coaches since 1946, have been sold to Don Everall. Ltd., Wolverhampton. The transfer has been approved by the West

Midland Traffic Commissioners. The .Harman vehicle distributorship business will be continued.
