Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AN OWNER-driver has been ordered to pay £450 in fines and costs for hours offences and for not having the right licence to drive his 7.5-tonner.

Ian Robb, from Bexley Heath, admitted the offences before the Bexley magistrates.

Prosecuting for VOSA, Anthony Ostrin said a 7.5tonne vehicle being driven by Robb was stopped in a roadside check. Traffic examiner Frederick Linger asked Robb to produce his tacho charts and it was noted that within the 24-hour period he had failed to take the appropriate amount of rest.

The rest taken had to be at least 11 uninterrupted hours. If split rest was being taken, the 11 hours increased to 12. one period of which had to be at least eight hours. That was not the case here.

Appearing for Robb. Astrid Emir told the court that he had taken a large amount of rest, but not in the correct form. "There was a chunk in the middle of the day when he did not work," she said.

Regarding the lack of a driving licence, Emir said Robb had thought the DVLA had made a mistake in taking off his Cl entitlement but now realised he did not have it and should not have driven the vehicle.

Robb was fined £200 for taking insufficient rest over 24-hours; and a further £50, plus £200 costs for driving without a licence.
