TRANSPORT CHARITY Transaid is to expand its remit by offering its expertise to other organisations working in developing countries.

With a staff of only six,Transaid has already worked successfully in several African countries. It has set up programmes to train people involved in transport, supplying them with skills and knowledge that many in the UK transport industry take for granted.

Now chief executive Chris Saunders believes it is time to expand its reach.

He believes it can scale-up more effectively by advising othi organisations on how they ca improve warehousing and logi tics: "We are already speaking t the United Nation's World Foo Programme, which is the biggei transport user in the UN.

"It has recently published paper which stated that its tran port costs are almost equivalent t the amount it spends on food. If could help it cut transport costs t 10%, it would have more to spen on food aid."

Saunders has also spoken t Downing Street advisors who ai keen to pursue Transaid's ideas.
