THE question of waiting time figured largely in the business of the National Council of the Road Haulage Association at its meeting in London last week. The council felt that the problem should be considered in a fairly broad context; not only docks delays, but delays caused by any reason whatsoever.
Factors which aggravated the situation were bans. on loading and unloading in certain streets, the shorter working week, and week-end loading bans at factory premises. It was decided to take steps to enlist the support of trade and industry and the general public to drive home the point that any cut in waiting time would lead to increased efficiency and reduced costs of operation.
Restrictions on loading and unloading were also discussed at a meeting of the Express Carriers National Council on Wednesday.
The Association's Vehicle Security committee has appointed two of its members to the sub-committee which is being set up 'to consider entries to the vehicle security competition. They are Mr, J. T. Brown, of Atlas Express, and Mr. J. T. Turner, of J. H. Turner, Ltd.
