• Royal Mail plans to open a £60m road/rail hub at Willesden in north-west London by the end of 1995, eliminating the need to collect and deliver letters at central London rail terminuses.
The nine-acre site will handle 15 million Royal Mail consignments a day out of a total 6 million. It is designed to help Royal Mail meet its target of 95% next-day deliveries. It currently manages 91%.
Royal Mail has given its 50,000 drivers, including postmen using cars in rural areas, a 3.3% pay rise.
