SCOTTISH hauliers have reached agreement with the Transport and General Workers Union over pay and subsistence for the next 12 months.

The agreement, following the English trend, allows an extra five per cent for drivers, ranging between £2.50 and £4.00 a week. Subsistence is at £5.50 a night.

It was kept to that despite hopes by Glasgow TGWU secretary Peter Talbot that the men would get more.

But the unions did win agreement for a driver failing to fird accommodation within £5.50. He may contact his employer for authority to spend more, but he must be able to produce receipts.

A scheme for insurance against death or injury in an accident will also be introduced as a result of the negotiations.
