• Shadow Transport Minister Bernard Jenkin MP launched a nationwide petition to highlight the "massive amount" of fuel duty the government is forcing road users to pay.

The initiative began outside the Treasury in London last week with Tory leader William Hague MP and Jenkin symbolically signing a blown-up version Of the petition. It will now be taken round the country for road users to sign. The petition will be presented to Prime Minister Tony Blair at the end of the summer Hundreds of fuel stations are said to have volunteered to display posters and stickers depicting Chancellor Gordon Brown as a highway robber.
