• Consideration of a licence renewal bid by James McCaul, trading as J&J Skip Hire. of Felbridge, West Sussex has been adjourned. South Eastern & Metropolitan LA Brigadier Michael Turner plans to visit McCaurs operating centre to assess its access.
McCaurs bid to renew his fourvehicle restricted licence, based at the rear of Copthorne Road, Felbridge was opposed by Surrey County Council, the district council and five neighbours. The county council told an East Grinstead public inquiry that the junction with the highway was dangerous because of the speed of the traffic using the road and because of restricted visibility.
For McCaul, Cohn Ward maintained that the county's criteria were based on sight lines from the front seat of a car: drivers of HGVs had better sight lines because they were higher up and had no projecting bonnet.
