PROVISION of the necessary transport for the 1.500 delegates and guests attending the British Medical Association Conference in Belfast last week constituted a major operation for the Ulster Transport Authority. During the eight-day period 63 coaches travelled nearly 4.000 miles throughout Ulster.

There were tours to the Mountains of Mourne. the Glens of Antrim. the Giant's Causeway and the Ards Peninsula, as well as visits to National Trust gardens at Mountstewart and Rowallane, also to Armagh Cathedral and Carrickfergus Castle. One day the fleet of buses met a special train at Omagh, transporting visitors to Enniskillen for a cruise on Lough Erne. Extensive use was made of the catering facilities of the U.T.A. hotels at Newcastle (Co. Down), Portrush and Larne, and the Glenariff Ca re.

To meet the requirements of delegates staying at Bangor and Crawfordsburn a daily coach service, scheduled to fit in with the conference sessions, was operated between Bangor and Belfast. A U.T.A. spokesman said that the B.M.A. made contact with the Authority in the early planning stages of the conference, thus simplifying the completion of a satisfactory programme.
