Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE North-Western Deputy Licens.1. ing Authority, at Manchester last Week, granted a B licence to Messrs. W. Carman and Son, Stoke-on-Trent, authorizing tb,ern to carry electronic equipment for the English Electric Co., Ltd., in a 1k-ton van.

Mr. J. A. Dunkerley, for the applicants, said they were one of four closely connected firms who, between them, had 28 vehicles on A and B licences, the carrying capacity of the smallest being 5 tons. They required this vehicle for the collection and delivery of small and urgently required packages for the Kidsgrove depot of English Electric.

Figures produced for the whole fleet, 14 of which were on milk delivery and the rest on general haulage, showed they were fully occupied.

Small parcels of valuable electronic _equipment had occasionally to be delivered at short notice all over the country. Up till now a large vehicle had done the work, but it was not

economic. If granted, the vehicle would also be used as a service van, and to carry goods for H. J Heinz Co., Ltd., and the.Nestle Co., Ltd.

Mr. G. P. Crowe, for the British Transport Commission, who objected„ said that if the application were granted a larger vehicle would he freed. There might be a case for a limited grant. but there was no evidence of need for Heinz•-and Nestles.

The Deputy Authority, Mr. J. R. Lindsay, said he was not satisfied with regard to Nestles and Heinz, and a licence would be granted for English Electric only.
