AS announced in "The Commercial Motor" on July 20, 39 A.E.C. single-deckers with Crossley bodies are to be supplied to Christchurch Tramway Board, New Zealand. Integral construction is to be employed, and the main structural members will be of steel. The Crossley pillar will be modified to enable exterior and interior panels to be riveted.
Flooring will be of resin-bonded plywood, but elsewhere the use of timber has largely been eliminated, Maximumwidth glider-type doors will be interlocked so that the vehicle cannot be driven while the doors are open. The two windscreens will be inclined at an angle of 24 degrees.
A 5-in. moulding encircling the body and built out at the sides to, act as a bumper is a legal requirement in New Zealand. Front and rear bumpers of heavy-section material will be provided, and all wings will be of moulded rubber.
The vehicles will accommodate 42 seated and 21 standing passengers. Pram hooks will be fitted to the front of the body. The length of the buses is 33 ft. and the width 8 ft.
