Sankey Steel Bins.

A difficult department in almost all works of any magnitude is the stores. The room for it is always grudged, the necessary capacity is difficult of esti

mate, and, as a rule, after a year or two of working, the space allotted is discovered to be inadequate, and from that time onward the department is a thorn in the flesh of the management.

Another problem in the designing of a suitable stores is that of providing bins adequate for the proposed contents, both in respect of the number as well as the size of the parts. Until lately, the works carpenter has been called upon, as a rule, to assist in the solution of this !problem, and his assistance, though invariably useful, is, nevertheless, expensive both as regards material and labour in comparison to the results obtained.

The problems of storage, present at all times, am more than ever insistent just now, particularly in engineering shops, when extensions to meet the national need are so numerous throughout the industry as almost to deserve the term universal. The moment Is, therefore, opportune for bringing to the notice of our readers, whether they be manufacturers, owners of fleets of vehicles, or garage proprietors, the Sankey stamped-steel bins. These are made in a variety of sizes and shapes, so as to meet practically all reasonable requirements. They are easily erected, being built up from pressed sheets and bolts ; they are extensible in all directions, so that increased storage requirements may readily be made ; they can be cheaply

painted when erected, and when so they keep in good condition for a lengthy period. We have had

personal experience of the utility of these fittings. Owing to the special form of construction, they are partienlarly durable and strong in comparison with their weight. In addition to ordinary bins for stores, the same company—J. S. Sankey and Sons, Ltd., Castle Works, Hadley, Salop—also makes various types of lock-up cupboards for the reception of clothes or valuable special stores.

SkeFko Ball Bearings.

The Skefko Ball Bearing Co., Ltd., informs us that it is making extensive improvements and alterations to its existing works and offices at Leagrave Road, Luton. We understand that the extensions are already in progress.

It is interesting to recall the fact that the Skefko Co. only started to manufacture iii 1911, and that the increased demand for its bail bearings has necessitated an extension being made each year from that date.

When the present extension is complete, the works will be one of the largest and best-equipped of its kind throughout the country. The company is a controlled establishment, and the whole of its output is at present devoted to the production of Government essentials.

"Eros" Chassis Adaptor.

We understand from Morris, Russell and Co., Lid., 75, Curtain Road, London, EC., that the demand for the "Eros" chassis adaptor, which is marketed for the purpose of converting a Ford chassis into a vehicle capable of carrying a load up to 25 cwt, has been very large, and, as a consequence, there has been some difficulty in keeping pace with incoming orders.

The company has, however, recently enlarged its works to a considerable extent, and is now in a position to supply the adaptor from stock. We are informed that various improvements have been made to the original design, including the fitting of powerful road-Wheel brakes_ There is however, no increase in the cost of the adaptor.
