Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Midland-Grau has just launched ILAS III, a simpler valve package for the control of lift-axles on CVs. Correct positioning of the lift-axle at all times by an integrated system is said to minimise the cost of wear on tyres and running gear. The new version is made available as an alternative to Grau's existing ILAS system. It operates on a single circuit which further reduces system complexity, cutting the cost to the fleet operator.

According to Grau, ILAS III can be specified in either autolift/auto-lower or manual-lift/auto-lower forms. A further option allows the driver to lift or lower the axle from the cab, to increase the fifth wheel load, providing a short-term boost to traction when operating in slippery conditions. Both ILAS and ILAS III incorporate all the components necessary to control the lift-axle, including 8mm pushin fittings. The maker says that retrofitting is a simple operation.
