WATER cooling is continued through to the welding tips on VV 'the new Lightweight Tongs spot welder available from Rentweld Ltd. This arrests mushrooming or spreading of the points without the disadVantage of additional water hoses— the flexible leads to the welding head contain these hoses as well as the electrical cables.

Four heat variations allow spot welding on thinner panels whilst the tongs can be replaced by a dolly-type anvil with a corresponding electrode holder for thrust spots, thus enabling approach to two sides of the panels which are too large to be spot welded by tongs.

Better Diesel Lubricant

IMPORTANT changes to the make-up of Deusol lubricants

for diesel engines have been announced by Castrol Industrial Ltd. Deusol CRI is the name given to a new series designed to meet the demand for Supplement I oils, whilst the Deusol CR oils are still available but in an improved form. Other oils in the range arc the Deusol CRT and CRD series which are intended for use in supercharged diesels, particularly when using high-sulphur fuels, or in applications where Series 2 or Series 3 'lubricants are specified. Each Deusol series is available in four viscosity grades—S.A.E. 10, 20; 30 and 40 and in the case of the Deusol CRI range there is also a 20W/30 multigrade known as Deusol CRIVI. The main change to the oils is the use of .a new detergent/ dispersant additive. Tests are said to have shown that the new additive gives notably lower piston deposits. It also neutralizes the corrosive sulphur compounds formed from the products of combustion of diesel fuel oil. Besides the detergent/ dispersant, the new oils contain the other essential ingredient of a diesel engine lubricant, an anti-oxidant/corrosioninhibiting additive. This slows down the rate of oxidation. of the oil thus promoting engine cleanliness. Makers: Castrol Industrial Ltd., Castro' House, Marylebone Road, London, N.W.1. FIVE new items have recently been added to the range oi chemical maintenance products marketed by Holt Products Ltd.

Engine Clean is a solvent (combined with an emulsifying agent contained in a large-size aerosol) intended to remove grease, oil and dirt from engines and units: The spray will operate with the can in all positions, even upside down, and after application, the unit is sprayed with water to remove the emulsified depdsit. Engine Clean is non-caustic, non-acid and non-corrosive and is 'harmless to hands, clothes and paintwork.

Solid Oil is also contained: in an aerosol and is sprayed on to the part as a liquid and sets as a grease ; This .product will be particularly suitable for lubricating hinges and hicks, cables and linkages and has some penetrating 'qualities. "the lubricant is satisfactory for use-in temperatures from —36.°C. to 200.C.. The other chemicals arc concerned with radiator and eooling system maintenance. Speedflush: is designed for cleaning but cooling systems, particularly after anti freeze has been installed, and will remove all impurities, sludge and anti freeze .traces in a very short time. To provide against. corrosion after inhibited anti-freeze is drained off,,Radiator Stop Rust can be used and this product contains sodium fluorescein, which shows tip leaks with a brilliant fluorescent streak. Doing the same anticorrosion job but without the leak detector is Holts Radiator Anti-Rust.

Makers: Holt Products Ltd., New Addington, Surrey. Prices: Engine Clean, 5s, 6d.; Solid Oil, 5s. 11d.; Speedflash, 5s.; Radiator Stop Rust, 3s. bd, (10-oz. tin); Radiator Anti-Rust, 2s. (sachet).
