Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Renault Trucks has started a new technical training scheme at its Dunstable headquarters; the first 11 would-be technicians from across the UK have already started their courses, Already. over 40 apprentices have signed up with Renault, which intends to train more than 60 youngsters from the age of 16 each year. Options range from foundation courses to HNC level tuition.

The initiative is in response to the government's Modern Apprenticeship programme, and Renault's partner in the scheme is EMTEC, an established provider of technical support services to the automotive industry.

"There are serious skills and labour shortages in the CV industry," says Renault's training manager Brian Burns. "We believe that our formal apprenticeship programme will help to establish a growing pool of skilled individuals."

As part of its commitment to developing this specialist training, Renault has invested over £250,000 in new facilities at Dunstable which include both classroom-style training suites and a fully-equipped, three-bay training workshop. Handtoois alone have cost over 116,000, it says.
