Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Merseyside police have found more than 218m worth of drugs in the back of a truck heading for Glasgow.

Officers stopped the vehicle on the M74 near Abington, south Lanarkshire on Saturday 19 October; they seized 100kg of cocaine, 40kg of heroin and 84kg of ecstasy.

Five people were arrested, including the Scottish driver and four men from Merseyside. They were questioned at a police station on Merseyside; a sixth man from Merseyside was subsequently arrested and £150,000 worth of cannabis was recovered.

Detective Chief Superintendent Stuart Kernohan, head of the Merseyside Crimes Operation Unit, says: "This is a significant seizure which will have a major impact on the supply of drugs in Merseyside, UK and Scotland.

"The arrests of six men by Merseyside's Crimes Operation Unit, with the help of Customs and Excise and Strathclyde police, comes as a result of an 18-month surveillance operation targeting Liverpool drug syndicates.

This is a significant resift in our commitment to taking Class A drugs off the street and cracking down on organised crime on Merseyside and we will continue to keep up the pressure on criminals who blight the lives of our communities."
