• John Wright is involved in another haulage company just two months after the controversial closure of his previous operation,.1 Wright Heavy Haulage.
Wright, who is the transport manager of Liftwright at Carrington, Greater Manchester was director of J Wright Heavy Haulage—also based at Carrington—when one of its drivers was killed in an accident at Ferrybridge, West Yorks in 1994.
J Wright Heavy Haulage closed this August, just days before the Crown Prosecution Service was due to bring a prosecution against the company for running a truck with defective brakes. The CPS is considering its position because it appears there is no longer a legal entity to prosecute.
The driver, Robert Atkinson, was killed after the truck plunged into water. He died after freeing his 10-year-old son who had been travelling with him for the day.
