Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

REASONABLY priced and having an attractive appearance, two types of bus shelter are obtainable from the North Midlands Engineering Co., Ltd., Skegby, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Notts. After erection, no fixing bolts or "screws are visible as those heads which might otherwise be seen are countersunk and can be puttied.

The city shelter is made in lengths of 5 ft., whilst the slightly angled cantilevered roof projects 4 ft. over the pavement. The supports may be buried to a depth of approximately 2 ft. The roof is 7 ft. high at the kerb. This type of shelter costs £18 per section plus £15, so that a three-section shelter 15 ft. long would be £69.

The :oral shelter is also supplied . in lengths of 5 ft. but is supplied with more expansive vertical surfacing to provide greater weather protection than the other model. There are various ways of arranging wails and openings. A shelter with two openings costs £30 per section 5 ft. long plus £9, so that a threesection shelter would be priced at £99.

Each section of either type of shelter requires two panels of glass, either +-in. armoured-plate glass at £6 13s. a panel or Georgian wired glass at £8 10s.

Curtain Runners CURTAIN runners for vehicles of the type which are side-loaded by fork trucks and have sliding curtains at the side are being made by Coburn Engineers, Ltd., Peasmarsh, Guildford, Surrey. A number is being supplied to S. and B. Bodies, Ltd., Hackney, who are building 16 trailers for fork-truck loading. .

Cartridge Motors FEAruRE of a two-speed +--in. electric drill produced by S. N. Bridges and Co., Ltd., York Road, London, S.W.11, is a motor of the cartridge type. Many kinds of drill have the field coils directly attached to their casings, and the company claim that by making the motor for their appliance a separate unit, it is possible for quick replacements to be made should a failure occur; also that because the clearance between the armature. and the coils can be smaller than is possible with the other method of construction, a greater amount of power is developed.

A green light—an accessory known as the Neonic safety eye—fails to illuminate should the earth connection be faulty or wrong polarity occur. Spade and breast plate are fitted as standard. The price of the drill is £24 18s. 6d. High speed is 670 r.p.m. and low speed 390 r.p.m.

Return Action A SELF ALIGNING bracket is

featured by two mirrors introduced by Desmo, Ltd., Pensnett, Brierley Hill, Staffs. This allows the head to return to the set position if knocked. The type 74/85 has a waterproof mirror case enclosing a convex glass 71 in. by 4+ in., whilst the type 72/86 may have either a flat or convex glass measuring 51 in. by 21 in. The bracket may be supplied separately.

Equipment Conversions TO facilitate the conversion of existing equipment to the new Saffire type 2 specification, British Oxygen Gases, Ltd., Spencer House, St. James's Place, London, S.W.1, have introduced special arrangements under their exchange scheme enabling components to be modified at a nominal charge. Saffire equipment has been improved since its introduction in 1956 to increase efficiency.

Headlight Aiming 1-1. A USEFUL publication, "Vehicle

Headlamp Testing (Road Note No. 23) " by V. J. Jehu. has been issued by the Road Research Laboratory (Stationery Office, 2s.).

Although, as the author points out, there are no official regulations on the subject of headlamp aim beyond the broad requirement that the beams from all anti-dazzle systems should be deflected downwards, it is obvious that many lights do not even approach this standard.

Mr. Jehu recommends that the driving beam should be horizontal to -I° down and that single-beam near-side lamps which remain illuminated when meeting other traffic should be deflected downwards 30 to 31° and turned slightly to the near side.

Inexpensive Lamps DRICED at only 12s. 6d., the Penetrac

pre-focus headlamp unit with block lens is being sold by the Wico-Pacy Sales Corporation, Ltd., Bletchley, to replace 7-in, headlamp units fitted as standard on most vehicles. Wipac also have, at 15s. 6d.. a similar type of unit but featuring a bi-focal lens giving a long-range beam together with a diffused beam for illuminating the immediate foreground. This typo is also sold at £1 with a pilot bulb hOlder.

An inexpensive petrol filter has. been introduced by the company. It has an element of sintered bronze and the effectiveness of the medium is claimed to be superior to that of larger filters of con

ventional type. Known s the FilterLink, the unit is designed for use with *-in. o.d. pipe, and when fitted also serves as a shock absorber relieving stresses which sometimes cause leakage at screw connections.

The element can be cleaned with a reverse air flow at a recommended interval of 10,000 miles. It costs 3. 9d.

Tractor Battery DESIGNED as initial equipment for Caterpillar D8 tractors, but also suitable for replacements on other vehicles, a 6-volt battery with 115 amp.hr. capacity has been produced by Chloride Batteries, Ltd., Clifton Junction, Manchester. It is 101 in. long, 7 in, wide and 913-E. in. high. The price of the battery uncharged is £8 7s. 6d.
