W/HEN Mr. R. W. Burden, Norwell, VII Notts, applied to the East Midland Deputy Licensing Authority last week to add a tipper to his B licence, he stated that because it was impossible to hire tippers in the Newark area for agricultural work he was a year behind with the transport of materials for making roads on farms.

Mr. W. Morton, for the applicant, said that the vehicle in question was already operating under a short-term licence. Local farmers gave supporting evidence.

Mr. A. I. F. Wrottesley, for the British Transport Commission, stated that if the carriage of parcels were excluded and Mr. Burden undertook not to substitute with vehicles more suitable for furniture carrying, his clients' objections would be withdrawn.

The application was granted in such terms.

COUNCIL OPPOSE BUS OWNER QUPPORT is being given by Louth 1.--) Rural District Council to an objection lodged by a Lines farmer to an .application by Mr. F. B. Stark, bus proprietor, to amend the route that he travels on Wednesdays between Binbrook and Louth.

The council contend that approval of the application will deprive rural people of service. Further opposition may come from the local branch of the National Farmers' Union, DUBLIN 74-SEATERS

AFTER testing London and Glasgow buses in Dublin, Coras Iompair Eireann are introducing 74-seat doubledeckers on city routes in place of their standard 69-seaters. Designed and built at the C.I.E. Works, Dublin, the vehicles have a brighter interior, increased ventilation and a new lighting arrangement in the lower saloon.

OBITUARY

WE regret to announce the deaths of MR. GEORGE HENRY HUNTER, MR. MAURICE HTJDLASS, BRIG. FRANK HORLINGTON, MR, LEWIS WARD and MR. E. RUSSELL GURNEY.

Mr. Hunter, aged 59, was managing director of G. Hunter and Sons (Coal), Ltd., Hull, and a director of Hunters of Hull (Transport), Ltd.

Mr. Hudlass had been chief engineer of the Royal Automobile Club since 1947. He was 56.

Brig. Horlington had been with the Metropolitan-Carnmell , Carriage and Wagon Co., Ltd., since 1919, and became commercial manager of the bus division at the company's Elmdon works.

Mr. Ward, who was 63, was founder and managing director of Lewis Ward and Sons, Ltd., tyre and brake facing distributors in Huddersfield and Halifax.

Mr. Gurney was deputy chairman of the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners for many years, and was Recorder of Rotherham and Pontefract. He was 80.
