Durham-based Hargreaves Transport Services – which has a fleet of 200 bulk tippers and employs the same number again as subcontractors – was singled out by the judges for evidence of a clear culture and commitment to: • safety, health and the environment; • driver training, particularly SAFED training; • a clear working team approach in all that it does; • a clear appreciation of its staff, particularly its drivers.
The judges said the result was happy customers; an excellent financial performance and an ability and willingness to reinvest in the business to keep it ahead of the competition.
Also shortlisted for the award were Scotland’s Malcolm Construction Services and Bristol’s Paul Smart Transport.
