Though cleared of dangerous driving, the truck driver

is fined and given six points. Mike Jewell reports.

ROAD RAGE cost a Lancashire truck driver £500 and six penalty points on his driving licence when he appeared at Caernarfon Crown Court.

Craig Pemberton, of Bury, was alleged to have tailgated a motorist on the ASS road between Talybont and Llandegai near Bangor last June, blowing his horn and flashing his lights.

At one point Pemberton was alleged to have tried to overtake the car by pulling into a lay-by. Later he drove his artic in front of the car on a roundabout, clipping its front side wing.

Pemberton said he had won safe driving awards from his employer, Christian Salvesen. Approaching the roadworks he noticed a green Ford Focus driving up fast behind him. He pulled over and the car passed him, only just making it back into the nearside before the cones. He had to brake heavily to avoid a collision. He flashed his lights and tooted his horn to let the Focus know he was there.

Asked to explain the manoeuvre in the lay-by, Pemberton said he had caught up the car a second time. The car had braked and he was afraid he might hit the back of the car.

The jury cleared Pemberton of dangerous driving but found him guilty of driving without consideration for other road users.

Passing sentence, Judge Philip Hughes said: -You know you drove badly.you accepted as much in evidence, and you have been found out."
