Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The threat to Nightowl's Alconbury truckstop has angered councillors who fear local roads will become a "disaster area". Chris Tindall reports.

THE IMPENDING CLOSURE of a truckstop in Cambridgeshire is causing deep concern among councillors who predict chaos on roads near the site.

The10-acreNightowlAlconbury truck stop has space for 200 LG Vs: facilities include a drivers' bar,TV lounge, restaurant and shops.

But the site has been sold to property developers Wrenbridge Land for a rumoured /.5m. The council says Wrenbridge has discussed changing the use of the land — it could be used for warehousing ( CM 29 March).

County councillor Sir Peter Brown warns that closing the truckstop could lead to more accidents and deaths on the A14: "Wecan't at any stage contemplate the closure of that truckstop. At night-time during the week it's always full.

"Between Huntingdon and Cambridge on the Al4 we have around 700 CVs with an estimated 320 spaces. if I-Alconburyi goes, what's going to happen? It's going to be a disaster area. All I can tell you is that the county council and the district council are extremely concerned about the state of the A14.

It is closed more times than open with accidents and a number of fatalities; I don't think closure of a truckstop will help that."

Wrenbridge Land declined to comment as CM went to press.
