I find myself in a quandry and wonder whether or not any other readers are sharing my dilemma.

Very shortly we will all be making our way into the polling booths across Britain and placing our X in a box. The problem is. I don't know which box will get my vote.

I have been a floating voter all my life, having never been affiliated to or particularly favouring a political party.

In some ways the current bunch seem to be doing not too bad a job. I have confidence in Gordon Brown as Chancellor, which is a very important area in which to be doing well. The jury is out on Blair and Prescott. Gus Macdonald seems to say the right things, or at least make the right noises.

However, I look back on the fuel protests and shudder at the way in which our industry was treated. When it suited the government it turned a blind eye to the problems of fuel on road haulage. When we protested, the media was manipulated into reporting on aggressive behaviour from the protesters, and when the public backed our causes with support and sympathy the government decided that we were, after all, worth talking to.

However, what concessions were made were too little, too late as far as I'm concerned. And the government made sure that come the threatened deadlines our industry would not get more public backing.

So, do I keep in bed with Labour and their scheming ways; give the Tories another chance; or try out Charles Kennedy and company?

I would like to hear what my fellow readers think.

Mive Bayliss, Taunton, Somerset.
