,Friends at Leyland tell me that the latest appointment of Sir Donald Stokes has been warmly received there as a recognition of the important part which the company has played in the industrial life of Lancashire. I don't mean his chairmanship of AvelingBarford, but one that you may have missed: he has been made one of Her Majesty's Deputy Lieutenants for the County Palatine of Lancaster.
