Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A NATIONAL ACADEMY to raise skills levels in the logistics sector will be launched later this year following publication of a government white paper on training.

The academy, which will oversee the development of a new range of qualifications for drivers, warehouse staff and managers, will be jointly funded by the industry and the government.

Employers will be helped to find training providers best suited to their needs and funding for training programmes Ian Hetherington, chief executive of Skills for Logistics, which co-ordinates vocational training in the industry, says the launch will be a turning point.

"First-line management is probably the biggest area of weakness. It's traditionally been served by people moving up from the driving, warehouse and traffic office roles but they require a much broader mix of skills than in the past."

A full range of qualifications for the sector will be available from the middle of this year and the academy will ensure there are common standards throughout the country: "There is a move towards tailoring qualifications more to the needs of individual companies so they will have a more modular structure."
