Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

DRIVERS AT CONTAINER specialist Freightliner are due to launch an overtime ban which will cut up to 18 hours from their working week.

The ban, which was scheduled to start on Tuesday (29 March), follows an overwhelming vote to take industrial action over pay.

Freightliner offered to increase the basic rate from f7.50/hr to £8.91/hr, but the RMT union claims that this would have been financed by the removal of overtime and bonus payments.

Senior Assistant General-Secretary Mick Cash says the dispute has been inflamed by the company's decision to let a group of drivers in Southampton keep some of these payments. "It kind of indicates that there's more money on the table," he says.

Cash adds that the 130 drivers work an average of 50 hours/week but this will be reduced to 37 hours by the overtime ban.

Freightliner spokesperson Alison Bown says: "We very much believe that the best way forward is through discussions round a table, but in the meantime it will be business as usual."
