Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ADRAFT of the regulations under which compensation will be paid by the British Transport Commission to former employees of haulage undertakings has now been issued. An outline of the main provisions was published in The Commercial Motor" on October 28, 1949.

The Transferred Undertakings (Compensation to Employees) Regulations, 1950 (Stationery Office, 4d.), provide for compensation for those who lose their employment, suffer loss or diminution of emoluments or pension rights, or whose position becomes worse as the result• of acquisition.

A claimant must have been continuously employed on Aor B-licence work, after attaining the age of 18, from January 1, 1940, up to the date of transfer. War service counts. If he loses his employment and has not refused reasonable, comparable alternative work, a claimant will be eligible for an interim payment of two-thirds of his net emoluments, with certain deductions if he obtains other employment or is granted unemployment. sickness or injury benefit. The terms of compensation will depend on the circumstances of each case. They may vary between an award .until retiring age is reached and one for 13 weeks. The award will be subject to review for a period of two years.

Where emoluments are reduced or conditions become worse, there will be no interim payment, and the minimum paj, nient will be proportionately lower. Similar considerations will govern the amount awarded, and the compensation granted will be subject to review at any future date.

Separate regulations will be made to enable a claimant to have pension rights granted in his old employment preserved in his employment with the B.T.C.

A claimant who is aggrieved by a decision on compensation may appeal to referees appointed by the Minister of Labour.
