Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

-AUseful Spring Tester and High-pressure Lubricating Plant Introduced by the Miller Concern THE range of hydraulic appliances manufactured by Henry Miller and Co., Skyhi Works, Standard Road, Willesden, London, N.W.10, has, in recent weeks, been considerably extended. "Probably the most interesting of the new items is a simple but wellmade tester for laminated springs; almost any pressure capacity can be provided for, although the popular size is the 5-ton model, which complete costs £42. It indicates the load applied, the amount of deflection and the perinanent set, if any. The bed consists of two channels forming rails, on which runs a pair of carriages for the ends of the spring, each carriage having four ball-bearing rollers. The spring is placed on the carriages and wheeled into the central position. The tension is taken by four pillars, having a base plate and a head plate, and the latter holds the rain, which is equipped with a double-acting pump. This is easily operated by one man, and the release control is instantly effected by turning the pump handle. On top of the ram unit ia the pressure gauge, whilst an adjustable vernier is carried in the head plate, the rule that works with it moving up and down with the ram head.

The company also has new models of its portable hydraulic garage jack, these being for S-ton, 12-ton and leeton loads. Like the smaller model previopsly described in The Commercial Motor, they embody the familiar double pump, a large-diameter pump giving convenient, quick lift until the resistance is met and cutting out then, so that a smalldiameter pump provides the better leverage necessary for lifting the load. A by-pass prevents over-loading, and a safety device makes it impossible for the maximum-travel .position to be exceeded. The release control is mounted on the pump handle.

The company's cylinder-liner presses can now be supplied with -power operation by means of the Skyhi six-cylindared swash-plate pump and an electric motor. The 8-ton model, with 2 h.p. motor, costs 175.

Henry Miller and Co. is entering the high-pressure lubrication market, and introduces three compressed-air-operated portable lubricators. The one of 3-lb. capacity costs 12 guineas and is of the horizontal type, whilst two vertical types are the 12-lb. model, at 15 guineas, and the 20413. model, at 19 guineas. A good feature is that the gun, which is connected by means of a flexible pipe, is both light and small, so that inaccessible nipples on a chassis are reached without inconvenience, whilst, by means of a trigger, full pressure is obtained without effort for dealing with obstinate cases.
