• A Midland-based haulier has placed the first major outside order for a system which encloses an artic's brake and electric suzie coils in a single hose.
S Jones of Walsall is to fit the patented device — designed by Christian Salvesen with Hydraulic Hose Assemblies of Peterborough — to 46 of its ERF trucks (CM 6-12 December 1990). HHA says it can extend the life of suzies sixfold because they are not stretched so much when the vehicle turns a corner.
Until now Christian Salvesen has been equipping its own Mercedes fleet with the umbilical cables; it decided to market them to outside companies, through HHA last year.
HHA says it is also talking to Leyland Daf about fitting the hoses to about 140 Glass Glover trucks which are working on a contract for Tesco.
