Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Stanadyne, the US multinational automotive equipment manufacturer, is now offering a range of diesel fuel heaters in the UK. The company has appointed Carlair Ltd, Runcorn, as its UK fuel heater distributor. Carlair supplies outlets throughout the country. Two types of Standadyne fuel heater are available — a simple "line-type" unit and a heavyduty heater for larger trucks.

The Model A line heaters are provided in 250-watt/24 volt or 150-watt/12 volt forms and come in an easy to fit kit.

A feature of the Model A is its compact size and competitive cost. Retail prices quoted by Carlair indicate that the 12-volt fuel line heater will cost around 229 and the 24-volt version 239. Fitting time is estimated at about an hour for either version. Both versions have a 12month warranty.

The Model A fuel heater automatically switches on when the fuel temperature is below 10°C. When the temparature of the fuel from the tank rises above this level the heater switches off. The 24-volt model is described as being suitable for up to medium-size trucks with engines of around 149 kW (200hp).

For larger trucks Stanadyne Model 'I' fuel heaters are offered. These are much more robustly constructed pieces of equipment suitable for all types of trucks. They are available in 350-watt of 500-watt versions, the latter for the very large type of truck.

The T is an all-electric heater, and the TEC is an electric unit with a built-in coolant heat exchanger. This allows for the use of coolant heat to keep the diesel flowing in extreme conditions. In the TEC electric heat is used initi

ally to warm the fuel, then once the coolant is to tempera

ture this is sufficient to pre vent fuel waxing. Both I heaters are automatically actu ated when fuel temperatures fall below 8°C. A three-year gtiaratee is provided.

Carlair, the company handling Stanadyne fuel heaters in the UK, is a specialist opera tion offering a wide range of automotive services to the transport industry. Established in the UK during 1962, the company is part of the giant French CFAO group.

From its Picow Farm Road, Runcorn base, Carlair is actively involved in the import and export of fuel injection re placement components, auto electrical parts and other items. The company also has extensive fuel injection, auto electrical and turbocharger reconditioning facilities.

Among Carlair's many sign holdings are Bosch (diesel ser vice agents) and Garrett Turbocare. As from January 1987 the company is also Bosch electrical service agent.

The replacement fuel injection components it imports are supplied to over 600 specialist fuel injection repair shops including those operated by large transport operators. According to Tony Meredith, Carlair's managing director, its fuel injection parts offer a cost benefit of some 15 to 20%.

These parts and its other lines are on a next-day service to virtually any part of the UK.
