timers safety study

A STUDY of the relative safety of full-time and part-time bus and coach drivers is to be undertaken by the Department of Transport.

Dr rim Hunt of the School of Clinical Medicine, Cambridge University, has been appointed to lead the research team.

The study will be based on surveys of bus and coach operators over a period of 12 months and the entire project will take about 15 months to complete.

A pilot study by questionnaire will commence shortly involving between 400 and 500 bus and coach operators in the East Midlands and East Anglia. The main study will follow in 1977.

The Transport and General Workers' Union and the Confederation of British Road Passenger Transport, representing the bus and coach operators, are co-operating in the study.

This study is part of the research announced in the House of Commons on February 4, when it was said that no evidence had been found that part-time drivers were more prone to accidents.
