Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A SCOTTISH firm of ice-cream r't manufacturers have just put into service a vehicle which is claimed 40 be the first of its kind to comply with the new ice-cream regulations in Scotland. These require the sterilization of service equipment and towels, and the provision of washing facilities for the attendants.

The firm are Messrs. James M'Lean, 1Q8, Forbes Street, Glasgow, who have converted their existing fleet of three mobile shops.

The problem of sterilizing in a vehicle operating for a whole day away from its base was solved by the fitting of a Calor-gas unit. The unit is compact and efficient and costs about 150. ft consists of a washhand basin and a sterilizing cabinet linked to a flat Calor

• gas container; the three components are built against the back of the partition between the driver's cab and the &orb/.

The assembly has a four-gallon water tank at the top, from which water is piped to the lowest unit, the washhand basin. Between these two is the small sterilizing cabinet, to which is fitted a glass container for the sterilizing liquid.

A few drops of this liquid are released into, the burner system, aial the external burner, next to the, cabinet, is then' lit. The vapour given •off-sterilizes the cabinet and •its contents in about 10 minutes; The interior of the vehicle cab be sterilized by leaving the cabinet door open and closing the van doors at the rear and the sliding door between cab and body.

Normal practice will be to fumigatethe vehicle interior and sterilize the towels and other equipment before the day's work is started.

The van is designed for service from each side, with sliding glass panels and aluminium service counters running along both sides of the vehicle.

The sterilizing equipment for the eon'version of these three vehicles—the water tank, Becterol cabinet and Calorgas unit—was supplied by Messrs. Stanley Nicholls, 15, Allesley Road. .Coventry.
