Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Has it really come to this— choosing jail over fines (CM1723 August)? When will the government learn that targeting innocent truckers for something that is out of their control will seriously affect the transport industry as well as companies on tight margins? Ridiculous fines and subsequent imprisonment for not paying fines surely cannot be the answer. Ever since the EU saw fit to bring down the countries' border controls the illegal immigrant problem has been escalating to absurd proportions.

The UK government needs to work a lot more closely with their foreign counterparts to stop this "passing the buck" mentality. Once the trucks leave foreign soil for the UK it becomes our problem.
