With the tragic deaths of the three teenagers in last nights coach crash in Yorkshire involving two lorries, I'm reminded of how often I witness both lorries and coaches tailgating in centre and nearside lanes, and on dual carriageways.
Tailgating is a highly dangerous practice in any circumstance. But when it involves a potent mix of heavy truck and coach, it is unforgivable.
UK truck drivers and coach drivers are equally as bad as any foreign driver. Go and witness it for yourselves on any motorway on any day of the year.
Unfortunately we tend to accept it as normal—until people get killed. We reflect for a couple of minutes then we carry on as before. When are we going to fund the police properly, to stamp this out once and for all? Severe penalties are the only answer.
Motorists ignore all the signs warning "keep your distance". If car drivers can't behave in this area of driving, at least we should expect the professionals to show the way. But alas, they don't. Mick Penning, Stoke, Staffs.
