Known as Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL), the Retail Motor Industry Training scheme can ensure workers can gain qualifications through acknowledgement of their work experience.
At the APL launch ReMIT director Mike Allmond said: "The APL scheme at last honours all those mechanics and technicians who are first class at their job even though they have no formal qualification.
"It is hoped that the APL will become a recognised standard of quality because it allows prospective candidates to achieve a qualification within their own time constraints and working environment,"
