Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Investigators have cleared the AA of allegations of misconduct in running Kent Police's vehicle recovery service.

The AA, which won the contract to manage vehicle recovery for Kent Police last year, has faced a string of accusations from operators left off its approved list. An AA spokesman says: "We cut the list from around 90 operators to 20, based on clear criteria, but this upset a lot of people. There were some very wild accusations going around— including the fact that those on the list got there through Masonic contacts.

"It was nonsense, but the police felt things had got bad enough to launch an independent enquiry.

"Obviously we welcome the outcome of that enquiry," says the spokesman.

0 Some of the 20 operators on the AA approved list in Kent have been attacked by arsonists this year (CM 6-12 July).
